The federal government recently announced that it would offer amnesty to militants. Do you believe  in the amnesty terms, notably monetary incentives, offered to militants? Would it halt youth restiveness and violence in the region?

According 2 d news on CNN, d militants re fighting against poverty and under development in the niger delta. If this is true then how would amnesty reduce restiveness among d youths. i simply think the solution would be developing the niger delta and providing job oppurtunies.

amnesty is not the only solution,...i agree that it is part of the solution to the crisis in the niger delta,...recently president yar adua has not been making the right decisions,but i wont join those that are giving him knocks over the amnesty issue...at least his making an effort.

The peace has to come before development and job opportunities so I think its a step in the right direction.

Monitizing the Amnesty offer seeks to pacify and meet the beneficiaries' economic stipend without recourse to their social lives.

I think the Nigerian nation, should be fair and just, while Niger Delta Leaders should be fair and just too to our people. One question that has defied all answers is: Was/Were the originators of the said struggles after money? - NO!  What we want is fair share of national Cake, infrastrural development, poverty ellevation and even representation in all spheres of the Nigerian nation.

After the Amnesty, then what? how does the government intend to ensure that issues raised are resolved not in short term, but long term.

So, to some extent, the amnesty offer/pack is a good omen, if properly implemented to the latter.

An amnesty offer without a post amnesty development plan will only serve the interest of our oppressors in Abuja. Why do we focus so much on the Effects rather than the Causes of the problem. How long do we think the FG will continue with this carrot and carrot strategy.All they are interested in is a kind of peace that will allow them continue their exploitation.
Take a look at the budget provisions for NDDC and Niger Delta Ministry for 2009
Take a look at the slow speed with which the east west road is been constructed. I am not skeptical about the amnesty offer, all i advocate is that the FG should make public their post amnesty plans for all to evaluate. A multi-dimensional approach that will stimulate and fasten the developmental policies should begin NOW. We no longer want Shell to come and build a three or four-classroom block and celebrate it world wide as community development project.
We should focus on making life better for the millions of men, women and children whose sources of livelihood have been removed. We should think of providing jobs for millions of jobless graduates and other unemployed youths who are roaming the streets for search of employment.Peanut as amnesty  palliative is not the solution. Capacity building and infrastructural development should guide our decisions.

who says there is pranks some where i doubt, our president has done real good by implementing the amnesty ,but  i think it might not just be the solution to restiveness in the region, there is need to strategically set up a commitee for peace keeping and dispute resolution in the niger delta region, each local government should have a team of dispute resolution experts believe me it will help immensely.

I feel d FG hav an hidden agenda,i dont think amnesty will work. Jst as normal FG might not fulfil their own end of the bargain.

It is on unfortunate that this is happening in this great country (Nigeria), when the South West and the North where producing Cocoa and Pyramids respectively, they were collecting 50% per cent of their produce, what make the case of Niger Delta different, The Minister for petroleum (Dr. Riwan Lukman) recently announced that Federal Government is realizing Eighteen Billion Naira on daily bases from oil, this means that they make Eighteen Billion Naira from Niger Delta on daily bases, what stop them from given One Billion Naira Only to each of these state on daily bases, where this huge money is been generated before they will come and star sharing the money. The issue is not Ministry of Niger Delta neither amnesty.
